The Melt was founded in the summer of 2011 by two friends who were unsatisfied with the underground electronic music scene in Los Angeles. Roger Schami and Jesse Sappell both grew up surrounded by hip-hop and electronic music. They soon realized the lack of the music that they desired in LA. After exploring the possibilities of what they had to offer, they set out and organized a show with a few friends at a small thrift shop in Silver Lake. There, The Melt was born.

After their first few shows with artists like Jonwayne, Mono/Poly, Groundislava, etc., they decided to focus on bringing talent that was unfamiliar to the LA beat scene. They were soon introduced to east coast crews like Astro Nautico, JASS, and M|O|D, many of which were not getting any attention on the west coast. The Melt began focusing on bringing them out to LA and growing a network of friends who were all working towards the same goal of building momentum for an ever-evolving generation of artists.

Eventually, The Melt launched into a full-fledged record label. They released the debut EP of collective-member Gossamer which received much recognition from blogs like VICE and ISO50. Since then, they’ve released their first free compilation featuring music by Obey City, Deebs, C.Z., The Range and many more. The Melt has since been written up by blogs like XLR8R and Salacious Sound, worked with collectives like TeamSupreme, Wedidit and 6BIT, toured the east coast, and performed at festivals like SXSW. Today, they continue to organize parties in LA, release music on their label, and promote the music they love on their blog while still staying true to their DIY roots.

The Melt is Kloud, Moiety, Gossamer, Djemba Djemba, FuzZ and Snorlax.
